Del Rio Part Timer? WWE Network Subscriber Count, Austin Makes Beer
Alberto Del Rio’s Contract
According to the Wrestling Observer Alberto Del Rio will not be working a full WWE schedule, but it’s still not quite a “part timer” deal.
He was offered big money to return as WWE are somewhat desperate for a Hispanic star.
WWE Third Quarter Financial Results
WWE released their Third Quarter Financials today, revealing a Network subscriber increase of 79,000 from a year ago. The count went from 1,227,000 to 1,306,000. This is broken down in to 990,000 domestic subscribers, and 243,000 international subscribers. Network revenue reached a record of $145.8 million on a trailing 12-month basis.
Interestingly the Madison Square Garden special with Big Show vs. Brock Lesnar is the most-watched WWE Network program, excluding standard PPVs.
Meanwhile WWE’s Operating Income (OIBDA) of $23.4 million increased $20.7 million from the prior year quarter.
Total international revenue increased by 43% to $119.0 million through the first nine months of 2015.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, Chief Strategy and Financial Officer George Barrios and SVP Financial Planning & Investor Relations Michael Weitz hosted a conference call to discuss the results today.
During the call they were asked about slipping TV ratings. Barrios said they don’t worry about one single metric. He said they are still doing better than anyone else on pay TV and are higher than other shows on USA and Syfy.
Barrios also claimed that WWE do not consider nor treat NXT as competition to the main roster, and that they are targeting different audiences.
Austin Launching Own Beer Brand
Steve Austin and the El Segundo Brewing Company have come together to launch a Steve Austin themed beer:
(El Segundo CA) – WWE Hall of Famer, Steve Austin, and El Segundo Brewing Company, one of LA’s premier craft breweries, have teamed up to create what Austin describes as “one bad ass beer”. Known around the world for his intense in-ring style, trash talking, and beer swilling antics, Austin has embraced the craft beer world with a hands on approach.
After meeting with ESBC founder, Rob Croxall, it was clear they had a lot in common. Austin, who knows good beer when he tastes it, was already a fan of ESBC’S Citra Pale and Mayberry IPA. Over a table of beer, conversation shifted to a collaborative effort utilizing ESBC’s expertise in brewing and Steve’s vision of the ultimate India Pale Ale. Austin described in detail the characteristics he loved in a great IPA. The resulting recipe, churned out by Rob, created a beer that boasts a big mid palate flavor from ample use of Cascade, Chinook, and Citra hops. The finish is wonderful with hops fading quickly and a polite bitterness that trails off easily. This is the ultimate IPA designed for the working man and woman who love great beer. The work is done. Time to enjoy a cold one.
El Segundo Brewing, located at 140 Main St, El Segundo, will launch BROKEN SKULL IPA on lucky Friday, November 13th. Steve Austin will be behind the bar serving up this tasty brew from 1pm-8pm. Tickets are REQUIRED. tinyurl.com/brokenskull. Come on down, enjoy a Broken Skull IPA, and shake Steve’s hand for a job well done.
