Kevin Nash Joins GFW

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has been announced for GFW’s August 14th live event, from the Winston-Salem Dash and BB&T Ballpark, in North Carolina. Nash who is currently under a WWE Legend’s deal is still free to book his own independent dates so long as he doesn’t appear on TV.

Jarrett’s promotion had previously agreed to work with Scott Hall but because of an alcohol relapse the “Bad Guy” was pulled from the roster. The press release reads:

Six-time World Champion Kevin Nash will appear as a GFW Legend, while other confirmed talent includes the Killer Elite Squad (Lance Hoyt and Davey Boy Smith, Jr.) and Tessa Blanchard, the daughter of the founding member of the Four Horseman Tully Blanchard. More talent will be announced soon. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for the GFW event. For more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-6877.

GFW is currently running their Grandslam Tour of live events at ballparks across the country, using a 6 sided ring. So far they have been drawing a few hundred fans.

The fledgling promotion will be holding their first “TV tapings” at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, on July 24th, though no actual TV deal has been struck as of yet. Jarrett has repotedly been talking with a number of networks, including Destination America before ROH was given the Impact lead-in.

As is often the case on the internet some fans have been overly negative on Jarrett’s venture, mocking the concept of working with other promotions before it was properly explained, joking that they don’t have a roster until the roster was announced, and now pointing out their lack of attendance at shows.

Don’t forget that Rome wasn’t built in a day, this isn’t the post-WCW era where TNA was gifted fans out of the gate. Jarrett has to build this from the ground up. 400 fans at an Indy event is not a bad a number at all. Those who attended had a good time and everyone got paid. Is there a boom period in wrestling? No, but being positive is part of promoting!
